This week, we can’t help but want to share the proud news within the IE team that the Maidstone United Ladies Football Team have become the South East Counties Kent Division 1 League Champions (with a game to spare), and their goalkeeper is none other than our very own Director, Helen Marsh.
With the Maidstone Ladies being a newly created team and new to the league it is a great achievement for Helen and the team.
While Helen has always been an avid fan of football, she herself has never played for a team before she joined this season. She was tempted in to the sport as a friend started a local social football training session and Helen fell in love with the game. Helen was told about the Maidstone Ladies trials, and was curious to see how she’d get on. Helen was obviously more than up for the challenge as she got signed up straight away. When asked what made her become a goalie, Helen says, “No one else was mad enough to go in goal!” – which turned out well for everyone as she enjoyed it and was willing to throw herself about in order to put a great performance in for the team.
Unfortunately, Helen struggled with injury just before Christmas, straining a ligament in her knee at a training session. Having gone through physio, she is back fighting fit and has been playing with the team for the past few weeks after having to struggle with watching for the side lines for a few matches. Helen was very glad to be back in time for the league winning game.
We hope you join us in wishing Helen and the Maidstone Ladies team the best of luck for their upcoming cup final matches in a few weeks’ time, against Kent Ladies for the Kent Reliance Women’s Plate Final and against University of Kent for the South East Counties Women League, Kent County Divisional Cup.
