It makes our day when clients say they view us as ‘one of the team’, so we thought we would return the favour and switch the focus to one of our supplier partners. Someone who we view as ‘one of our team’, who helps us make a difference at IE.
This week, we chatted with Roger Wood at JumpIT, an expert at finding us candidates who are the perfect ‘culture fit’.
Roger, many of the candidates you have placed with us are long-term, well-loved members of the IE team, what’s the secret of your success?!
We look to place candidates who stay in jobs. A candidate might tick all the boxes with their experience, but to make the job a success it is just as important to find the right fit, for the right person. I won’t share a CV with a client unless I believe in that, no matter how top-notch their CV.
Have you noticed any recruitment trends since Covid?
Yes, the typical moving-on motivators have changed. With nearly everyone working from home now, there are less ‘office politics’, so that doesn’t come up as much, and the other traditional driver -‘the shorter commute’ – that has almost vanished. More money and a better culture fit are the current main motivators.
What tips would you give candidates?
Be yourself. Be honest. Don’t use money as the main factor when deciding what job to take. Many candidates come to me saying ‘I’m looking for a job in IT because I think it pays well’. But that won’t get you far. You need to do something you love. If you’re looking to change career completely, think more about ‘what are you good at?’.
Is it true – do recruiters make a decision about a candidate within the first 5 minutes of an interview?
I think it’s important to give people the benefit of the doubt. I need to spend time with candidates so I can hear how they answer questions and to give them a proper chance to explain who they are and what they’ve accomplished.
What do you specialise in?
We specialise in IT and technical roles, but our over-arching approach is to be client-centric, and to support clients with their broader recruitment needs.
